MODELLING PROCESS
| |||
1. Polygon
|
Polygon modelling is the modelling of various
3D shapes such as cuboids, spheres and other kind of 3D shapes. As well as preset shapes the user can model these polygons to how they desire by changing the shapes various geometries such as vertices, edges and faces.
Polygon modelling is used to create 3D models
using the polygons by adjusting features of the polygon. This diverse method is used within a variety of TV shows, video games and films.
2. Extruding
|
Extruding is used to add additional geometries to
a shape this is done by extruding faces or edges which pulls out the faces from the shape to extend the shapes size or geometries. In order to a extrude a shape first the edge or face that is going to extruded must first be selected, Select Edit Mesh > Extrude, click EXTRUDE in the modelling toolkit or press Ctrl + E, then use the direction tool to extrude the shape in the direction you want to extrude the shape or optionally you can set the attributes on the attribute editor, the benefit of this is you have more precision when your extruding your shape. The extrude tool is very useful for making complex shapes by pulling out and extruding existing faces.
3. Faces, Vertices & Edges
|
Polygons are made up of edges which are the straight
lines that run along the shape and connect the shape together, as well as faces which are the large flat surfaces and the final area that makes up a polygon being the vertices which is the corner which is usually at the end of the edge. Edges datermain how sharp the object is or alternatively the bevel tool can add edges to make the edges softer
When creating something like a tree in maya you may want
to bevel (which expands each selected vertex and edge into a new face as well as rounding the edges of the polygon) the edge in order to give the tree a more natural look.
vertices are the points that connect edges together. vertices
are useful as they can be pulled and adjusted to change the shape of the polygon. You can delete vertices from a polygon in order to change the shape of the polygon, deleting vertices from a polygon it will change the polygons geometry. Face is the large area in the middle of the vertices and edges they give the polygon its shape. Faces can be extruded to extend the polygon to the users desireto extend the polygon or even make it smaller by pushing the faces in additional to this faces can be textured to change the look of the polygon
ANIMATION /MOTION GENERATION
| |||
1. Keyframes
|
Keyframe is a method of animation which involves transforming
objects over time and when played back it appears the object that was transformed is moving, the keyframe is a location on the timeline, it marks the beginning or the end of a transition. At the bottom there is a timeline you can place an objects position on the timeline then press 's', this will set the objects position on the time table then by changing the position of the object(s) at a different point on the timeline setting the keyframe when played back the object(s) will appear as if they are moving. The red markers on the timeline show where a keyframe has been placed for the selected object.
2. Lighting
|
In maya there are various kinds of lighting that can affect
the atmosphere or whatever is being animated all lights can be edited to the desire of the animator changing things such as the width, length, color, fog, depth and other settings. to create a light within maya. To create a light within maya head to the lights menu and select the kind of lighting you would like to apply then by selecting the light editor you can change the settings for the light the lighting maya offers is a good way to add more depth to a scene adding atmosphere by making areas lighter than others as well the shadows created from the lights which add a sense of realism
3. Camera
|
In order to create a camera select camera type select
camera and then you can adjust options for that camera as well as changing the position, angle and height of that camera. The camera is used to see your scene and works like a real life camera when you view your scene you see the scene through the camera. the use of the camera is too see through it will animating it acts like a real camera so it can be moved and can have attributes like its angle adjusted, a cameras movement works like animating an object you can set an keyframe on the timeline if you want the camera to move to a specific area. multiple camera can be placed in a scene to get a variety of angles on whatever is being animated
INTENDED APPLICATION
| |
1. Grand Theft Auto 5
|
GTAV was created within maya the game was a high budget game
to exceed many hollywood movies. This shot is one the beach set within the city fro the game where the game takes place. Everything for this game was created in maya from the vehicles to weapons, environments even the chraracters. The beach in the game is based off of venice beach in america. |
A majority of the settings in game of thrones where created in maya
this allowed the creators to be more creative while creating the settings and to give the audience this is more of a fictional world rather than shooting i real life locations which would take away believability from the show.
3. Avatar
|
the majority of avatar was in maya this is due to the fact that many of the planet
elements could not be recreated by simply filmed in a jungle as this would not give the impression that the film is filmed on an alternative planet. everything in this scene is created in maya from the characters to the planet |
